We are very excited to announce that Save-A-Lot has partnered with us and joined our Healthy Happens Here program! As many of you know, Healthy Happens Here is a program geared to our Allen County small stores and focuses on highlighting healthy options that are offered. Customers at Ruler Foods will now see signage throughout the store promoting the better for you options to make shopping healthy a little bit easier. For example, as customers go through the aisles at Save-A-Lot, they will see the Healthy Happens Here logo near the price tag for whole grains, low sodium canned goods, brown rice, beans, and other designated foods. This logo and tag signifies that the item is “Activate Approved” and assists customers in making healthier choices while they shop. Both Save-A-Lot store locations in Allen County will be joining the program and the same signage will be displayed in each store.
Save-A-Lot is already committed to selling healthy options and additional signage will only enhance what is currently in place at the stores. In addition to new signage, both locations will also have a recipe and educational material display rack provided as a part of their partnership with Activate Allen County. This display will feature healthy, budget friendly recipes as well as educational materials that customers can pick up at no charge while shopping. Having recipes available will hopefully allow customers to try some new foods that they have never cooked before and provide some meal ideas that are simple and convenient for our on the go families.
Adam Miller, of Save-A-Lot had this to say regarding the partnership: “As a local grocery retailer, we love to partner with local organizations to promote healthier eating. Grocery consumers have become more conscious of what they are buying. At Save-A-Lot, you will always find our quality fresh produce and fresh meat that is cut in our stores every day. Therefore, partnering with Activate Allen County was an easy decision for us at Save-A-Lot.”
To kick off this partnership, we are inviting the community to the Bellefontaine Avenue Save-A-Lot location on Friday, June 2, from 1-3 pm. Come out and explore the store with the new signage in place, have a healthy snack, listen to live music from partner iHeartRadio and visit community partners tables. Community partners planning to be in attendance include: The Lima Family YMCA, Allen County WIC and Lima/Allen County SNAP Educators. Also, through our partnership with St. Rita’s Health Partners, you will be able to have your blood pressure checked and a body fat analysis machine will be available on site as part of a wellness screening. Have questions about general health and nutrition? A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist will be there to answer questions and provide free materials to community members. This event is FREE and open to all community residents. By coming, you will be eligible for our raffle prizes and giveaways provided by our community partners.
We hope you are able to join us for this great event- to see the new signage at Save-A-Lot and to gain valuable information about health and wellness. If you have any questions about this event, please call the Activate Allen County office at 419-221-5035.
