Youth Summit – September 25, 2014
IT’S UP TO YOU! Activate Allen County is currently looking to convene a youth advisory committee to allow our young adults to have a forum in which they can voice their thoughts, ideas and concerns; learn advocacy skills in the areas of real food, active living and tobacco use prevention and work towards a healthier Allen County for future generations.
Why become a YACer?
- Build leadership skills
- Become a decision maker for youth issues, needs and opportunities
- Make a difference for future generations
How to become a YACer?
- Attend the Activate Allen County Youth Summit

What is the Youth Summit?
The Youth Summit will empower youth, in partnership with adults, to create community change. This adult-youth partnership is an effort to address two critical issues in our community: childhood obesity and teen tobacco use. To learn more about youth advocacy trainings or about Youth Empowered Solutions (YES!), view the video below.
Health Issue Training Topics
Real Food
A look into the U.S. food system, food injustices, agribusiness, school lunch programs, effects of food on the human body and the environment that has contributed to a lack of safe, affordable and accessible foods. RF101 dissects these complex issues and explores sustainable solutions.
Active Living
A look inside the environmental structures, policies and systems in the U.S. that do not easily allow for active lifestyles. AL101 explores these issues and the polices that support an active and engaged lifestyle.
Tobacco
Explores basic tobacco information (including ingredients found in products) while allowing participants to discover the effects and consequences of tobacco use, secondhand smoke and emerging products.
